Overview
The U.S. cannabis market size was valued at USD 13.2 billion in 2022 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.2% from 2023 to 2030. Our competitive analysis conducted for the cannabis accessory market, specifically in 2020 revealed intriguing insights. It displayed a burgeoning industry, characterized by a surge in demand but also significant untapped potential. While several players were offering traditional smoking accessories, the market for bespoke, personalized items was far from saturated.
As a result, we sought to craft a rolling tray that deviates from the conventional, impersonal smoking accessories commonly available. Our aspiration was to infuse a personal element, adding a touch of artistry and personalization that transcends its functional role.
Problems
Availability: Depending on local laws some users may have trouble finding and purchasing the accessories they want.
Cleanup: Accessories that are difficult to clean can become less functional over time.
Durability: Accessories that are fragile or easily damaged can be a source of frustration, especially for regular users.
Lack of Customization: Many accessories come in standard designs with little opportunity for personalization.
Size and Portability: Some trays may be too large for easy storage or travel, while others might be too small to conveniently use or clean.
Solutions
Customization: Our rolling trays offer options for personalization like engravings and choice of artwork.
Premium Quality: Use of high-grade durable materials with a focus on craftsmanship for long-lasting use.
Aesthetic Appeal: Attractive designs based on pop culture.
Innovation: Unique features, such as built-in compartments for storage and phone holder.
Portability: Can be used on-the-go.
Convenient to clean: Easy-to-clean surfaces.

Research
Three key research steps.
Product Demand Research: In order to understand the size of the market, customer needs, pricing expectations, and potential growth opportunities.
Target Customer Research: I Conducted surveys, and one-on-one interview to gain insights directly from potential customers. This helped me create our personas.
Competitor Analysis: I analyzed competitors selling similar products which helped us identify opportunities.
Relevant Findings
Research indicated a strong demand for personalized accessories
Lack of portable solutions
Despite the prevalence of smartphone usage during rolling sessions, existing trays in the market lacked dedicated compartments for phones, leaving users without a convenient place to keep them
Lack of artistic or personalized options.

Personas
Identifying our demographic
In our pursuit of crafting a unique and artistic rolling tray that makes a statement, the introduction of personas becomes crucial. This step not only brings clarity to the problem we are addressing but also enables us to gain a deeper understanding of our target audience's specific needs and preferences. By shaping our design, branding, and user experience around these insights, I made it easier for our tray to stand out in the market.

Material Research
Experimenting with wood
During my comprehensive material research, I was meticulous in selecting a wood that adheres to the following criteria.
Non-toxicity: Antimicrobial in nature and require no harmful treatments.
A closed-grain structure: A smooth tactile experience that ensures cleanliness and facilitates ease of engraving.
A suitable finish: Recognizing the importance of safety, I ensured that the chosen wood has a suitable finish, as unfinished wood may pose potential hazards.
Durability: Resistant to bending and warping.
Weight: Lightweight in nature.
Sketches
A series of iterations
During the sketch process, I leveraged insights gathered from our one-to-one interviews to identify the crucial compartments in the rolling process. These include dedicated spaces for papers, pre-roll tips, a grinder, a phone stand, and a spacious rolling area. Armed with this valuable information, I embarked on generating design options that fulfill these specific wants and needs.
Product Development
Refining the winning option
After choosing the best option from our sketches, informed by interviews, I proceeded to fine-tune the dimensions of the rolling tray compartments which have been optimally sized and proportioned to accommodate papers, pre-roll tips, a grinder, a phone stand, and a spacious rolling area.
3D Model
Exploring the digital environment
I then embarked on creating a detailed 3D model that allowed us to visualize the tray in a digital environment. This process enabled us to assess its aesthetic appeal, ergonomic features, and overall functionality with greater accuracy. Moreover, the 3D model served as a preparatory tool for collaborating with our vendors, ensuring clear communication and seamless production. By leveraging the power of 3D visualization, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the rolling tray's final form and facilitated a smoother transition from design to manufacturing.
Augmented Reality
Incorporating an interactive virtual store was a game-changer for our brand, impressing customers and boosting revenue. Simultaneously the animations designed for our rolling trays revolutionized customer interactions, enhancing brand engagement and driving revenue growth.
Packaging Design
Interior
Included directions on accessing the AR animation to view their unique design and a helpful graphic illustrating the purpose of each compartment in the rolling tray.
Exterior
In our pursuit of minimalism, I designed the exterior of the box to feature our brand statement, logo, and a QR code, keeping the design clean and uncluttered.
